The Montes Haemus are a range of mountains that form the southwest coast of the Mare Serenitas, seen here around 19°N 9°E. Some of the summits reach 2400m. The crater at bottom centre is Bowen, named for American astronomer Ira Sprague Bowen (it was formerly known as Manilius A). Directly south of this image is Lacus Doloris, the lake of sorrow.
