last days of a condemned man: Mercury, photographed by MESSENGER, 14th January 2008.
The large crater at bottom left is Munkácsy, named for the 19th Century German-Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy (born Michael von Lieb). In this image north, curiously, is down rather than up. Munkácsy, 193km in diameter, is centered on 22°N 102°E (in East+ coordinates, 22°N 258°W if you use a West+ system; the location described is the same)
[Have just realized that MESSENGER images are tagged East+, while the USGS IAU database uses West+, which explains why I’ve had such trouble identifying Mercurial features before now.]
